SHASTRI RESEARCH STUDENT FELLOWSHIP (SRSF)

General Information

Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute is pleased to announce a call for Applications for Shastri Research Student Fellowship (SRSF) for Bachelor, Masters, M. Phil, doctoral students, and post-doctoral scholars enrolled in degree programs in recognized Indian & Canadian  universities or institutions to undertake research in areas/ fields in which  scholars may desire/require research experience in Canada/India. 

In general applications from all domains of studies like Social Sciences and Humanities, Arts, Commerce & Management and STEM subjects are accepted. However, applications are encouraged in the focus areas of SICI and priority areas of MHRD, Govt. of India i.e. Food Security and Sustainable Development, Water Resource Management, Gender, Bi-lateral Trade and Investment, Energy and Environmental Sciences, Securing Future of Children and Youth, Higher Education,  Agricultural Science & Technology, Teacher Education and Training, Health Sciences, Nursing, Marine Sciences and Ocean Studies is invited under this programme. 

Applicant must be from member institutions of Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute from India or Canada and the affiliate or host institution must be from member institution of SICI in India or Canada.  There are three categories of this fellowship.

Please note that the SRSF award is mobility based and application can be submitted by those who are registered for a full-time program in a member institution of SICI in Canada or India and their research requires them to be in the other country.

Shastri Research Student Fellowship for Doctoral Students - Value of Award: 560 CAD per week

2.   Shastri Research Student Fellowship for Post-Doctoral Student  -  Value of Award: 590 CAD per week

Fellowship Package:

The fellowship package will cover-

1. Economy class airfare from the place of origin to the place of affiliation in the most direct route

2. Visa /Compliance fee

3. Overseas insurance

4. Research allowance ( applicable to doctoral candidates only and inclusive in stipend)

Disbursement of Funds:

The stipend will be disbursed in two equal installments. The first installment will be released upon signing of a letter of agreement between SICI and the recipient’s institution closer to the awardee’s journey to Canada or India. The 2nd installment of the stipend will be released upon submission of the mid-term progress report. The remaining 10% of the award money will be released upon submission and approval of a final report to SICI by the recipient.


Eligibility

 Shastri Research Student Fellowship for Doctoral Students 

Eligibility

• Doctoral students must be registered/admitted for full-time Ph.D. in an Indian/Canadian university

• Applicant’s synopsis should have been approved by the competent authority before the last date of submission of application with SICI.

• The applicant’s university/institution must be from member institutions of SICI.  A list of SICI member institutions is available at the link provided here: https://www.shastriinstitute.org/member-council.

2.   Shastri Research Student Fellowship for Post-Doctoral Student 

Eligibility

• The applicant must have a doctoral degree awarded by Indian or Canadian University/ institution.

• An applicant must be registered as a postdoctoral fellow with member Institution of SICI. A list of SICI member institutions is available at the link provided here: https://www.shastriinstitute.org/member-council

• Upon doctoral degree award, one can apply and applications must be made within five years of receiving a doctoral degree.

Reporting: Applicable to the successful applicant only. Upload midterm and final reports in the prescribed format at  https://www.sicigms.org/login

Shastri Research Student Fellowship for Doctoral Students 

Application Requirements

• Complete application form along with all required documents at GMS Portal https://www.sicigms.org/login   on or before December 17, 2019, by 5:00 pm (IST).

• The doctoral fellow should obtain ‘Supervisor authorization’ from his/her supervisor/research guide before applying.

• Applicants should provide two reference letters of which one of the letters must be from their thesis supervisor/HoD.

• A letter of invitation/affiliation from the host faculty is must and the affiliate should be from member institution of Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute.

• The applicant should possess proficiency in oral and written English, and should preferably be in the age group of 21-35 years.

• The applicant should request his/her supervisor to declare in the reference letter that the synopsis of his/her thesis has been approved and also indicate the stage of research. Research at the advanced stage of submission will not be eligible for the award.

• Certificate of Ethical Approval (if applicable).

• Copy of the Passport.

• Incomplete applications will not be entertained

• In case the applicant is employed then the Employer’s endorsement is a must for application submission.

Shastri Research Student Fellowship for Post-Doctoral Student 

Application Requirements

• Complete application form along with all required documents at GMS Portal https://www.sicigms.org/login   on or before December 17, 2019, by 5:00 pm (IST);

• Proof of Post-doctoral need to be submitted along with the application form or  applicant’s admission to  Post doctoral fellowship should have been approved at the time of submitting the application;

• Letter of invitation/affiliation from the host faculty is must and the affiliate should be from member institution of Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute;

• Minimum of two reference/support letters to be provided towards your candidature for the award .

• Employer’s endorsement’ letter from head of the department/Institution/ with the application;

• The applicant should be proficiency in oral and written English, and should preferably be in the age group of 30-45 years;

• Certificate of Ethical Approval (if applicable).

• Copy of the Passport.

• Incomplete applications will not be entertained

Selection Procedure

Applications will be assessed. The decision of Adjudicators with respect to awards will be considered as Final decision.
